Search at Armenia's electric utility yields no evidence, says acting head

The search conducted at the Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA) is nearing completion, with no evidence of illegal activity discovered, according to the company’s acting Director General David Ghazinyan.

"No materials prohibited by law or of evidentiary value have been found and none could have been, because they simply don't exist," Ghazinyan told reporters on Tuesday, commenting on the ongoing investigative actions at the ENA headquarters.

When asked whether law enforcement had left empty-handed, he said, “At this point, yes, they left empty-handed.”

Ghazinyan noted that the search appeared to have been confined to the office of Narek Karapetyan, Chairman of ENA’s Board of Directors. “The investigative actions began after Narek Karapetyan’s arrival,” he said.

Although he was allowed entry into the building as acting director, Ghazinyan stated that he did not take part in the search. He also emphasized that no ENA employees had been detained following the raid.

Responding to questions about the possible political motives behind the investigation, Ghazinyan responded: “You’re trying to extract political statements from me. Honestly, they’re doing whatever they want.”

Earlier, the Investigative Committee told Panorama.am that urgent investigative actions were conducted at the Electric Networks of Armenia as part of the criminal proceedings launched by the General Department for the Investigation of Economic Crimes and Smuggling, as well as the Yerevan City Investigation Department.
