MP: Armenian authorities using two main tools against parliamentary opposition
MP Tigran Abrahamyan of the opposition Pativ Unem faction has accused the Armenian authorities of systematically targeting opposition MPs through violence and politically motivated detentions.
In a social media post on Friday, Abrahamyan denounced the detention of fellow opposition lawmaker Artur Sargsyan, dismissing the terrorism-related charges against him as fabricated.
“The move comes to show that the authorities are relying on two main tools against opposition figures in the parliament: assaults and imprisonment,” Abrahamyan said, emphasizing that the two methods are often used in conjunction.
He described Sargsyan as "a decent and straightforward man" and called the charges baseless and politically motivated.
“Freedom to Artur and all other political prisoners,” Abrahamyan added.
