Flower export ban hits Armenian farmers hard, opposition MP says

Armenian opposition MP Garnik Danielyan has raised alarm over a prolonged export ban on flowers, which he says is devastating local farmers. According to Danielyan, for nearly 20 days, exporters have been protesting the halt in shipments to Russia, but the government has offered no clear explanation for the restrictions.

In a social media post on Tuesday, the Hayastan faction MP criticized the Armenian authorities for neglecting the issue, claiming they are more focused on political crackdowns and the anti-church campaign. “Hundreds of greenhouse owners, many of whom took out loans to build their businesses, are suffering huge financial losses,” the MP wrote, warning that farmers are being forced to discard unsold flowers due to oversupply in the domestic market.

Danielyan blamed the government’s foreign policy, especially deteriorating ties with Russia and Georgia, for contributing to the crisis. He also accused the Economy Ministry of ignoring the agricultural sector, calling the situation “a disgrace”.

“There will be no solutions as long as the current leaders remain in power,” he stressed.
