State Department: US supports efforts to promote peace and stability in South Caucasus

The United States supports efforts aimed at promoting peace and stability in the South Caucasus, US State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce has said.

At a press briefing on Thursday, she was asked to comment on a recent statement by U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Thomas Barrack regarding the opening of the so-called “Zangezur Corridor”. Barrack said that an American company could manage the corridor for 100 years.

“I think we have a general sense here, and it’s obviously sometimes one of the problems with being in a location geopolitically that many places are interested in. We do know – and this is what I can say and it’s not exactly what you’re looking for, but – I – because this is also a question that the White House, that the President’s team – we’d like to check with them and see what they would say to this. But I can just tell you that the United States – we support, of course, efforts to promote peace and stability in the South Caucasus, as you know. And we track the events there. We are watching,” Bruce responded.
