Armenia reacts to proposal to rename Turkey border crossing after genocide architect

Armenia's Foreign Ministry has responded to a controversial proposal submitted to the Turkish parliament to rename the Armenia-Turkey border crossing after Talaat Pasha, one of the chief architects of the Armenian Genocide.

The bill was introduced by Musavat Dervişoğlu, the leader of Turkey’s nationalist Good Party, and backed by 28 party lawmakers.  

"In the Armenia-Turkey normalization process, the Republic of Armenia takes into account the official positions and decisions of the Turkish government,” the Armenian Foreign Ministry told Sputnik Armenia on Saturday.

Talaat Pasha was assassinated in Berlin in 1921 by Armenian resistance figure Soghomon Tehlirian, who was later acquitted by a German court.
