A note and a reminder: the Syunik route and Nikol's supporters at the Mother See

By Anahit Voskanyan

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has recently announced that Azerbaijani cargo and citizens should not be subject to Armenian border or customs inspections while transiting through Armenia’s Syunik Province.

The statement comes despite the fact that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has already ceded control of the Goris-Kapan interstate highway to Azerbaijan. The road is now under the control of Azerbaijani border guards and customs officers, who stop vehicles at will.

Now imagine this scenario: Pashinyan opens a road through Syunik, allowing unrestricted transit for Turkish and Azerbaijani freight vehicles. The Armenian authorities are not allowed to inspect the cargo and trucks carrying drones and Turkish soldiers block the road like moving fortresses.

And what would Armenia’s response be? To wave around a piece of paper signed by Pashinyan?

Let’s also take a moment to recall an episode concerning the 2018 campaign against the Armenian Apostolic Church under the slogan “New Armenia, New Patriarch”. Many of you likely remember the videos which showed Pashinyan’s supporters storming the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. Ironically, they brought kebabs and diapers with them. They ate and then discarded the soiled diapers into the nearby trash bins.

Behold the "sacred" spiritual life of Pashinyan and his supporters.
