The Yerevan First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction on Monday continued the trial of Archbishop Mikayel Ajapahyan, the leader of the Shirak Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church. The case is presided over by judge Armine Meliksetyan.
On June 28, the archbishop was placed in two-month detention on charges of calling for the seizure of power and the violent overthrow of Armenia’s constitutional order strongly denied by him.
During the opening session, the court rejected a defense motion for Ajapahyan's release pending trial, extending his detention by another 10 days.
