Armenian ruling party MP resigns

Armenian National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan reports that Aren Mkrtchyan has submitted his resignation as a lawmaker from the ruling Civil Contract party.

Under parliamentary procedures, an MP has one week to retract a resignation. If not withdrawn, the speaker formally records and publishes it, after which it takes effect.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan previously announced plans to appoint Mkrtchyan as governor of Lori Province.
