Preliminary hearings in Ruben Hakobyan's case to begin on Wednesday, lawyers say

Preliminary court hearings in the case of Ruben Hakobyan, a public and political figure detained for his political statements, are set to begin on Wednesday, according to his attorneys Grigor Meghdesyan and Varazdat Harutyunyan.

The first hearing will take place on August 27 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ajapnyak District Court of General Jurisdiction in Yerevan, presided over by judge D. Arghamanyan. During the session, the court is also expected to hear a motion concerning Hakobyan’s pre-trial detention.

Hakobyan has been charged with making public calls for the seizure of power in Armenia, a medium-gravity offense under Armenian law. However, the court has imposed a two-month pre-trial detention as a measure of restraint against him.

His lawyers emphasize that Hakobyan’s detention is politically motivated and stems exclusively from the exercise of his right to free speech.
