Opposition politician Armen Ashotyan, deputy chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), accused Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of ignoring the plight of Armenian prisoners of war held in Azerbaijan.
Speaking after a solo protest outside the EU Delegation office in Yerevan on Saturday, Ashotyan said Pashinyan had the opportunity to put the POW issue on the agenda of negotiations with Baku but chose not to.
“For Nikol Pashinyan, the issue of prisoners of war simply does not exist. It interferes with his narrative, his propaganda about a false era of peace,” he told reporters.
The politician argued that only a change of government could bring solutions. “Not everything can be restored, but we can prevent Armenia’s collapse, repatriate Armenian prisoners and hold the Azerbaijani regime accountable for genocide and ethnic cleansing,” he stated.
