Armenia prepares two new nominations for UNESCO World Heritage List

Armenia is preparing two new applications for inclusion on UNESCO's World Heritage Tentative List.

According to Harutyun Vanyan, the national coordinator for the 1972 UNESCO World Heritage Convention, the first nomination's details will be announced shortly. The second application is a public-private partnership initiative focusing on the Areni-1 Cave and its link to the history of winemaking.

During a working group meeting on Wednesday, Vanyan also presented on three Armenian sites recently added to the Tentative List – the Vishaps and the Cultural Landscape of Tirinkatar, the Urartian Heritage of Yerevan and the Garni Archaeological Site and the Symphony of Stones.

The meeting outlined future steps for inscribing new sites, including moving Tentative List sites to the main World Heritage List and discussing the potential of nominating a natural heritage site.
