Deputy minister: 366 children residing in Armenia's orphanages

Armenia’s orphanages currently house 366 minors, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Tatevik Stepanyan announced at a parliament session on Monday.

According to her, most of the children have severe disabilities.

Stepanyan noted that the number of children in orphanages and adoption rates have remained largely unchanged in recent years, with nearly 25 adoptions recorded annually.

“Of those, one or two are international adoptions and mostly involve children with health conditions,” she said, adding that Armenia is a party to international conventions on adoption and and it would be inappropriate to abandon the practice.
