Gyumri mayor's son placed under house arrest

Spartak Ghukasyan, the son of Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan, has been placed under house arrest, the Investigative Committee of Armenia confirmed to Panorama.am on Friday.

The measure was applied as part of a criminal case launched by the Shirak Regional Investigation Department. Authorities had petitioned the court to impose detention as a measure of restraint, but the court ruled instead for house arrest.

Spartak Ghukasyan had been arrested on extortion charges on Thursday.
