Security and military threats to Armenia 'very low', intelligence chief says

Armenia’s foreign intelligence chief Kristinne Grigoryan claims that current security and military threats to Armenia are “very low” compared to several months or a year ago. She made the remarks at the Comprehensive Security and Resilience 2025 international conference held in Yerevan on Monday.

According to Grigoryan, this assessment is largely the result of the August 8 agreements reached in Washington, as well as progress made in border delimitation and other diplomatic efforts. “This has created the basis and given us this opportunity. But there is still much to be done,” she noted.

At the same time, the intelligence chief warned of ongoing threats to Armenia’s democracy. “These are mostly hybrid threats. Democracy is our driving force, pace and ideology. We must identify and address these threats in our daily work,” she said.

When asked which country poses such risks, she stressed that threats to democracy do not usually come from a single actor. “They typically originate from several states, sometimes coordinated, sometimes separate. No country faces threats to its democracy or security from just one actor and Armenia is no exception,” Grigoryan added.
