World Championships: Armenian wrestler beats Azeri rival in opening round

The Wrestling World Championships continue in Zagreb, Croatia, with Armenian athletes competing in four weight categories today – 55 kg, 77 kg, 82 kg, and 130 kg.

In the heavyweight 130 kg category, Razmik Kurdyan advanced to the next round after edging out Azerbaijan’s Beka Kandelaki 1-1 on Thursday.

Elsewhere, Manvel Khachatryan is set to meet Turkey’s Emin Cakir in the 55 kg round of 16, while 77 kg contender Malkhas Amoyan faces American Kamal Bey in the round of 32. In the 82 kg qualifying round, Samvel Grigoryan takes on Kazakhstan’s Adlet Tiuliubaev.
