Armenian MP marks second anniversary of Artsakh offensive

Opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan took to social media to commemorate the second anniversary of Azerbaijan’s 2023 military offensive against Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), which forced its entire ethnic Armenian population to flee to Armenia.

“As a result of Azerbaijan’s assault on 19 September, 244 people, including 11 civilians, were killed. 11 individuals remain missing to date,” Abrahamyan wrote on Facebook, adding that around two dozen Armenians remain in Azerbaijani captivity, facing sham trials.

Abrahamyan linked the attack to the October 2022 Prague summit, where Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan formally recognized Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan. He argued that this step paved the way for the subsequent blockade of Artsakh and ultimately the military offensive.

“This aggression unfolded amid silent consensus and the criminal inaction of Armenia’s leadership and international actors. Artsakh was depopulated, while international law effectively signed its own death certificate,” he wrote.

The opposition MP paid tribute to those who died defending the homeland and renewed his call for the immediate release of all Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan.
