World Championships: Artur Aleksanyan opens campaign today

The Wrestling World Championships continue in Zagreb, Croatia, with Armenian athletes set for key bouts in the 60kg, 72kg, and 97kg weight classes today.

At 60kg, Hrachya Poghosyan begins his campaign in the qualification round against Ukraine’s Kuzko. In the 72kg division, Gor Khachatryan will face Luis Roches of Honduras.

Olympic champion Artur Aleksanyan (97kg) enters the competition from the round of 16, where he will face the winner of the Cebi (Turkey) vs. Wang (China) matchup. Bouts start at 12:30 p.m. Yerevan time.

Meanwhile, Malkhas Amoyan (77kg) has advanced to the final and will wrestle Japan’s Nao Kusaka for the gold medal.
