Azerbaijani analyst comments on 'Western Azerbaijan' narrative

Azerbaijani analyst Murad Muradov, deputy director of the Topchubashov Center, commented on the “Western Azerbaijan” narrative at a press briefing in Yerevan, where he was attending NATO’s 108th Rose-Roth Seminar on Monday.

Responding to a question on whether the term implies territorial claims against Armenia, Muradov said: “By ‘Western Azerbaijan", we mean respect for each other’s territorial integrity."

According to him, the concept is mainly promoted by an NGO focused on cultural heritage and community interests. “People lived in those areas for many years and want to visit their relatives’ graves, etc. The concept is more about cultural heritage and serving the interests of the people,” Muradov noted.
