The fatal shooting of Parakar Mayor Valodya Grigoryan is being investigated as a continuation of a February incident in Merdzavan, Armenian Interior Ministry spokesperson Narek Sargsyan told reporters on Saturday.
On February 5, a dispute over speeding and failure to greet escalated into a brawl and gunfire, leaving Grigor Ohanyan fatally wounded. He was the brother of Narek Ohanyan, who has now been arrested in connection with the September 23 killings.
According to Sargsyan, Sunday night’s attack followed the same cycle of personal conflict. Grigoryan, along with his friend Karen Abrahamyan, a police officer, was killed when shots were fired on Yerevanyan Avenue in Merdzavan. Another person was injured.
The Investigative Committee said large-scale operations by police and the National Security Service led to the arrest of suspect Narek Ohanyan. Efforts are underway to identify and locate all other individuals involved.
