Opposition MP slams detention of missing Armenian soldier's uncle

MP Tigran Abrahamyan of the opposition Pativ Unem faction has denounced the detention of Arsen Ghukasyan, whose brother was killed and nephew went missing during the 2020 war.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, Abrahamyan stressed that Ghukasyan was unjustly imprisoned despite suffering from serious health problems.

“Moreover, visits to him are severely restricted. Even MPs are barred from seeing him to assess his condition,” Abrahamyan wrote.

Abrahamyan accused the authorities of negligence and manipulation in handling cases related to missing soldiers.

“For five years, families have been deceived, receiving no news about their missing loved ones,” he said. “The parliamentary inquiry report has never been made public, while investigators claim they are ‘still working’. In the meantime, people have been driven to madness,” he stated.

“Instead of investigators, prosecutors, judges and officials being held accountable, those seeking justice end up behind bars,” the MP added.
