Five Armenian clergymen taken to Yerevan Investigative Department

Five Armenian clergymen have been taken to the Yerevan Investigative Department, according to lawyer Ara Zohrabyan and the National Front civic movement.

The priests – Fr. Paren, Fr. Manuk, Fr. Hayk, Fr. Mkrtich and Fr. Ghevond – were reportedly accompanied by several civilians.

Panorama.am reported earlier that several senior clerics from the Aragatsotn Diocese were taken to the Investigative Committee. The home of Bishop Mkrtich Proshyan, Primate of the Aragatsotn Diocese, was searched before he was taken in for questioning. He is the nephew of Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II.

The priest of Saghmosavank Monastery, Fr. Paren Arakelyan, is also among those detained.

When contacted by Panorama.am, the Investigative Committee promised to provide comments at a later time.
