Armenian student wins prize at Beethoven International Competition

Tamara Matevosyan, a second-year student at the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory, has won the second prize in the Vocal category at the Vienna Beethoven International Competition for Young Musicians 2025, the Conservatory reported on Thursday.

Matevosyan studies under Associate Professor Lili Markosyan at the Conservatory’s Academic Singing Department. The three-stage competition’s first two rounds took place in Armenia, where she performed arias by Mozart and Verdi, as well as works by Armenian composers Edvard Abrahamyan and Arno Babajanyan, accompanied by pianist Marianna Hayrapetyan.

In the final round in Vienna, Matevosyan performed the Snow Maiden’s aria from Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s opera At the Gala Concert, she presented Sing for Me by Armenian composer Alexey Harutyunyan, accompanied by pianist Margarit Sargsyan.

Matevosyan is also a laureate of national competitions, including the Romanos Melikyan Academic Singing Festival (third prize) and the AGBU Discovers Talents music competition (first prize).
