Police clash with protesters outside Gyumri City Hall

Armenian police clashed with protesters outside the Gyumri City Hall, where demonstrators had gathered to express support for Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan who was arrested on corruption charges earlier on Monday.

Police officers used force to disperse the crowd, pushing and pulling protesters away from the building entrance. Riot police detained several individuals and removed others, but a large number of demonstrators remained outside the City Hall to express solidarity with Ghukasyan, who is accused of accepting substantial bribes along with seven municipal officials.

Authorities are preparing to transfer Ghukasyan to a detention facility in Yerevan.
