Opposition MP questions secrecy over Armenian Defense Ministry spending

Opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan has criticized the Armenian Defense Ministry for classifying information about major construction spending in the first quarter of 2025.

According to the government’s budget execution report, 224.7 billion drams were spent on the construction of residential, office and other buildings for defense needs.

In a social media post on Tuesday, Abrahamyan, secretary of the Pativ Unem faction, said he had asked the ministry for details about where and what kind of housing was being built, stressing that many army officers still lacked access to housing programs.

“The Defense Ministry sent a fantastic reply – it’s all top secret,” the MP wrote. “In fact, what’s really secret is the story behind such massive spending, not the information I asked for.”

He highlighted that even the parliamentary commission’s classified report on the 2020 war was accessible to MPs, suggesting the ministry’s response lacked transparency.
