Political analyst backs impeachment push against Pashinyan

Political analyst Armen Minasyan has expressed support for an impeachment effort against Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, arguing that it may be the opposition’s only viable path forward.

In an interview with Aysor.am on Wednesday, Minasyan dismissed the possibility of snap parliamentary elections, saying the political conditions for such a move “do not exist”. He argued that the authorities currently hold a “carte blanche” in shaping the political narrative.

“Whatever label you attach to the elections, they will still be presented as democracy,” he said.

According to Minasyan, Armenia’s opposition forces remain fragmented and under-resourced to effectively challenge the government.

“Whatever the opposition does, it will be branded as Russia’s fifth column,” he warned. “But it doesn’t mean opposition forces should avoid participating in elections.”

Minasyan stressed that with regular elections still more than six months away, opposition groups should use the time to unite and push for Pashinyan's ouster.

He said the impeachment debate has entered political discourse and should be viewed as not only possible but also “necessary”.

“If consolidation can be achieved around this process, success is possible,” Minasyan said. “Otherwise, we risk seeing divisions in the church next month, our future is being sold off right now.”

The analyst suggested that if unity could be reached, even some members of Pashinyan’s Civil Contract party might back the impeachment effort.

“The hardest part is achieving public and political consolidation. But the potential for it exists,” he concluded.
