Opposition MP accuses Armenia’s ruling party of breaking its promises

Opposition MP Tadevos Avetisyan has sharply criticized the ruling Civil Contract party, claiming that what benefits the authorities often harms the Armenian people. Speaking from the parliament floor on Thursday, the Hayastan faction deputy accused the ruling majority of breaking their promises.

“What is good for you – a constitutional majority – is, as a rule, bad for the people,” Avetisyan said, addressing Civil Contract MPs.

He condemned what he described as the ruling bloc’s “sweetly packaged lies and populism”, arguing that bitter truths are preferable to deceptive narratives. Avetisyan challenged the government to publicly assess the implementation of its 2021–2026 program.

“Tell us what percentage of your program you have implemented and which parts you have deceived people about,” he said. “Count how many promises you have broken and weigh them by the percentage of the population each affects.”

The opposition MP further accused the government of abandoning its commitments to rule of law, democracy, and justice, replacing them with “selective justice and repression against free speech.”

“You promised rule of law, democracy and justice, but instead we have selective justice and repression against free speech,” Avetisyan warned. “Soon, you may even criminalize dissent in an extraordinary session.”
