Politician accuses Armenian authorities of misusing administrative resources in Vagharshapat

Heritage Party leader Raffi Hovannisian has accused Armenia’s authorities of an “unprecedented and brazen attack on the rule of law” ahead of the November 16 municipal elections in Vagharshapat.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Hovannisian condemned what he described as the misuse of administrative resources and the intimidation of people to influence the electoral outcome.

“There must be a change of government in Vagharshapat at all costs,” he said.

Hovannisian recalled that the current leaders once voiced similar complaints when they were in opposition.

“What we are witnessing today is an unprecedented, brazen and disgraceful assault on the rule of law, misuse of administrative resources to threaten and coerce people,” he said.

The opposition leader expressed confidence that political change would come to Vagharshapat on November 16, calling the upcoming local elections the start of the country’s "liberation".
