14 crews involved in firefighting operations at Yerevan shopping center

A major fire broke out at a food outlet in a shopping center on Yerevan’s Komitas Avenue on Thursday morning.

Fourteen fire and rescue crews are working to extinguish the blaze, which began around 11:08 a.m. local time on the roof of the building, Interior Ministry spokesman Narek Sargsyan told reporters.

All occupants have been evacuated from the building and no casualties have been reported so far. Two firefighters received medical care after suffering from smoke inhalation.

Rescue operations are being led on site by Major General Kamo Tsutsulyan, Deputy Interior Minister and Head of the Rescue Service. Reports that someone has been detained at the scene have yet to be verified.
