Rescue Service head says Yerevan shopping center fire contained

A fire that broke out at a shopping center on Komitas Avenue in Yerevan on Thursday morning has been successfully contained and no injuries have been reported.

Kamo Tsutsulyan, head of the Interior Ministry’s Rescue Service and deputy interior minister, told reporters at the scene that the cause of the fire had yet to be determined. “At this stage, I cannot speak about the causes of the fire and an expert examination will be conducted,” he said.

Tsutsulyan confirmed that several possible causes were being investigated but declined to provide further details.

“The fire has been contained and prevented from spreading further. Post-extinguishing operations are underway. There are no open flames at the moment,” the deputy minister added.

Preliminary findings suggest that the fire started at the KFC restaurant located within the complex. No casualties have been reported and assessments will be carried out to determine the extent of the damage.
