Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of U.S. President Donald Trump, will not visit Armenia on November 12. Former Armenian MP Arman Babajanyan said on Tuesday that the trip had been cancelled, claiming that “the visit was thwarted through the efforts of Russian-Armenian oligarchs”.
According to earlier media reports, Trump Jr.’s planned visit was expected to include business meetings and discussions with Armenian officials. However, Hraparak reported that the cancellation followed controversy in U.S. conservative circles over attacks on the Armenian Apostolic Church by the current Armenian leadership. The issue reportedly gained attention after American journalist Tucker Carlson’s interview with Narek Karapetyan, the nephew of jailed businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan.
Sources told Hraparak that Trump Jr. decided to cancel the Armenia trip after verifying reports of tensions between the government and the church.
Earlier reports suggested that Trump Jr. would attend a “prayer breakfast” initiated by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his wife Anna Hakobyan, where a meeting between the U.S. president’s son and the prime minister was reportedly planned.
