Late Armenian general's daughter charged

Armenian authorities have charged Naira Grigoryan, a judge and daughter of late general and former Yerkrapah Volunteers Union head Manvel Grigoryan, in a criminal case investigated by the Anti-Corruption Committee, it said on Tuesday.

Grigoryan faces charges under Articles 441(2)(5) and 482(1) of Armenia’s Criminal Code, which pertain to abuse of office causing grave consequences and issuing an unjust judicial act for personal or group gain.

The alleged offences carry potential prison terms of up to eight and four years, respectively. As a combined preventive measure, Grigoryan was ordered not to leave the country and was released on bail, the Anti-Corruption Committee said.

The Prosecutor General’s Office had earlier sought the Supreme Judicial Council’s consent to prosecute Grigoryan. The SJC approved the request on November 6 and suspended her powers pending the outcome of the investigation.
