MP: Sham trial of Armenian prisoners in Baku enters final stage

The show trial of Armenian prisoners in Azerbaijan has reached its final stage, with prosecutors seeking sentences ranging from 16 years to life imprisonment, opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan says.

In a social media post on Friday, Abrahamyan, secretary of the Pativ Unem faction, argued that the proceedings are part of Azerbaijan’s broader strategy to generate material that could later be used against Armenia.

“For Azerbaijan, peace means a sham trial that produces kompromat against Armenia, ready to be used for provocation, coercion or as an excuse for any breach of commitments,” he wrote.

Abrahamyan also criticized the Armenian leadership, claiming its statements on Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) increasingly align with Azerbaijan’s state policy.

“The government’s theses on Artsakh not only fully fit into Azerbaijan’s political doctrine, but also allow Baku to turn its existing arsenal against Armenia into an even more effective bargaining chip,” he added.
