Protesters march in Yerevan in support of political prisoners

Participants of a rally held in defense of all political prisoners, freedom of speech, democracy and against authoritarianism in Armenia on Thursday marched from the Prosecutor General’s Office toward the Shengavit District Court of General Jurisdiction in Yerevan.

The march coincided with a court hearing in the case widely referred to as the “18 Righteous”, which includes Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan and his supporters as defendants.

As they moved through the streets, the protesters chanted “Freedom to political prisoners” and carried posters featuring the images of Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, Archbishop Mikayel Ajapahyan, philanthropist and businessman Samvel Karapetyan and others facing persecution.
