Armenian opposition MP urges military leaders to speak out about 2020 war

Opposition lawmaker Tigran Abrahamyan has criticized senior Armenian military officers for remaining silent about the 2020 Artsakh war, saying their refusal to speak out enables the Armenian authorities to shift blame onto commanders and troops.

In a social media post on Saturday, Abrahamyan said most high-ranking officers with direct knowledge of wartime decisions have avoided public comment, while some cooperated with a parliament inquiry without informing the public. He pointed to the incarceration of former Artsakh army commander Jalal Harutyunyan and criminal cases against other senior military men.

The MP urged officers awaiting possible prosecution to break their silence, arguing that speaking openly could help address public pain and expose what he called the Armenian leadership’s attempts to deflect responsibility.
