Ex-ombudsman: Peace deal must serve Armenia's interests

Former Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan says he would sign a peace agreement with Azerbaijan, but only after Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev did so, warning against making concessions under pressure.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Tatoyan, founder of the Wings of Unity movement, criticized what he described as Armenia’s subservient approach to Azerbaijan, calling it “a road to nowhere” and stressing the need for a united, secure and economically strong Armenia.

Tatoyan rejected Azerbaijan’s demands for constitutional changes, emphasizing that Armenia should not yield to external pressure. He also criticized Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan for mismanaging U.S.-led mediation efforts, saying they inadvertently strengthen Azerbaijan and undermine American credibility.

“The peace agreement must serve Armenia’s interests,” Tatoyan said, describing it as a framework for dignity and security rather than unilateral concessions.
