Armenian minister warns wild animals may move toward settlements after forest fires

Armenia’s Environment Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan has warned that recent forest fires in Tavush Province have forced many wild animals to flee their natural habitat, increasing the likelihood they will appear near communities.

During a visit to Dilijan National Park and nearby fire-affected areas, Matevosyan instructed protected-area officials to step up public awareness efforts and strengthen fire-prevention measures.

“Alongside the strict need to follow anti-fire rules, we face another serious issue: many wild animals have left their natural environment because of the fires and may approach settlements,” the minister said.

Matevosyan also inspected the operational response headquarters coordinating firefighting efforts.

The ministry said documented problems would be addressed within the shortest possible time.
