Samvel Karapetyan's extended pretrial detention appealed in higher court

Armenian businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan’s lawyer reports that appeals against his extended pretrial detention have been accepted for consideration by the Anti-Corruption Court of Appeals.

In a statement on Friday, lawyer Aram Vardevanyan said the court is expected to review the appeals in writing despite the defense request for an oral hearing. A decision is expected on December 11, with written submissions due by December 10.

Vardevanyan again condemned the detention as arbitrary and politically motivated, noting that it coincides with Human Rights Day, observed globally on December 10 to mark the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.
