Census shows 17,500 people have no religious affiliation in Armenia

Armenia remains overwhelmingly Christian, with 95.4% of its population – about 2,793,000 people – identifying with the Armenian Apostolic Church, according to new data from the country’s Statistical Committee based on the October 2022 census.

The results also highlight the country’s modest religious diversity. A total of 17,501 people, or 0.6% of the population, reported no religious affiliation.

Catholics account for 0.61% (17,884 people), while Orthodox Christians make up 0.22% (6,316 people). Evangelicals represent 0.54% of the population, numbering 15,836.

The census also recorded followers of the Sharfadin (Yazidi) faith at 0.49%, or 14,349 people.

Separately, 1.7% of respondents – 49,353 people – declined to answer the question about religious identity.
