Armenia reports 748 road accidents in three days amid winter driving checks

Armenia’s Interior Ministry says 748 road accidents were recorded nationwide over the past three days, most resulting in material damage rather than injuries.

Police patrols have stepped up enforcement on winter driving conditions, inspecting 5,131 vehicles during the period. Authorities issued 550 administrative citations for using summer tires or winter tires that failed to meet required standards.

Officers also checked tires on vehicles involved in accidents. Of the 1,454 vehicles examined following collisions, only 28 were found to be fitted with summer tires.

The ministry says patrol officers are working with local authorities to report icy conditions and request road-clearing where necessary. Drivers have been urged to comply with traffic rules and use winter tires, with officials warning that strict enforcement will continue.
