A major exhibition of seascapes, including works by renowned Russian-Armenian painter Hovhannes (Ivan) Aivazovsky, is set to open in Sukhumi in 2026, organisers have said.
The exhibition will be curated by the Russian Gallery of Arts based in Sevastopol and will focus on renowned marine painters, TASS reported.
Vitaly Zotov, director of the museum and exhibition center, said negotiations were under way with several large museums that hold the works.
“We are currently in talks with major museums where these pieces are kept to organise a strong exhibition next year,” Zotov was quoted as saying.
The exhibition is expected to open during the peak tourist season, allowing both local residents and visitors to attend.
