Yerevan airport cancels flights to Aleppo, Sharm el-Sheikh

Flights between Armenia’s Zvartnots International Airport and the cities of Aleppo and Sharm el-Sheikh have been cancelled, an airport spokesperson reports.

Zvartnots spokesperson Lusine Moghrovyan confirmed the cancellations to Panorama.am on Friday, saying that flights on the Sharm el-Sheikh–Yerevan and Aleppo–Yerevan routes, as well as return services, had been called off. Several other flights are operating with delays, according to the airport’s website.

Moghrovyan said there were no operational problems at Zvartnots Airport and that weather conditions were not affecting flights.

Aleppo International Airport has been closed since January 6 amid clashes between Syrian government forces and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces. The airport is expected to remain closed until the evening of January 9.

At least nine civilians have been killed and 55 wounded in the fighting.
