Vicken Euljekjian questioned in Armenia after return from Azerbaijan

Lebanese-Armenian Vicken Euljekjian, who returned from Azerbaijani captivity on Wednesday, is being questioned at the General Military Investigative Department of Armenia’s Investigative Commitee.

Euljekjian returned to Armenia after spending more than five years in Azerbaijani prison. He had initially been taken to the Muratsan Military Hospital for medical checks before being transferred for questioning.

His wife, Linda Euljekjian, arrived from Lebanon on Thursday morning and went to the hospital to see him, but was informed that he had been moved to the Military Investigative Department.

Azerbaijan handed over four prisoners to Armenia on Wednesday, including Gevorg Sujyan, David Davtyan, Vicken Euljekjian and Vagif Khachatryan.

Euljekjian was captured near Shushi on 9 November 2020, the final day of the six-week war in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). He had travelled to Shushi with fellow citizen Maral Najarian to collect personal belongings from a local hotel. Najarian was released in March 2021.

In June 2021, a court in Baku sentenced Vicken Euljekjian to 20 years in prison.
