Campaign calls for release of Armenian opposition figure Khachik Galstyan

Posters calling for the release of Khachik Galstyan, a senior member of Armenia’s opposition Homeland Party, have appeared on buildings across several districts of Yerevan.

The posters feature Galstyan’s photo alongside the slogan “Freedom to political prisoner Khachik Galstyan”. Organisers of the awareness campaign say it is intended to draw public attention to the politically motivated prosecution, insisting that the charges against him are fabricated.

On 30 December, Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Court ordered Galstyan, the secretary-general of the Homeland Party, to be held in pre-trial detention for two months. He has been accused of giving electoral bribes.
