Seven arrested during protest outside Iranian Embassy in Yerevan

Seven people were arrested during a protest outside the Iranian Embassy in Yerevan on Saturday, Armenian authorities said.

The demonstrators, mainly Iranian residents in Armenia, expressed support for protests taking place in various Iranian cities. They had planned to march from the embassy to the Blue Mosque, but the route was not authorized.

“The march was not permitted, and seven individuals were detained for failure to comply with police orders, in accordance with Article 182 of the Administrative Offences Code,” Interior Ministry spokesman Narek Sargsyan, told Panorama. He added that police continue to ensure public order.

On Friday, the Iranian Embassy in Yerevan issued a statement acknowledging citizens’ protests over economic hardships while condemning foreign interference.
