Yerevan Conservatory student wins top prize at international competition

A student from the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory has won the first prize at a major international music competition.

Third‑year choral conducting student Elen Guyumjyan, under the guidance of lecturer Amalya Mkhitaryan from the Conservatory’s General Piano Department, took the top award in the General Piano: Soloists category at the 12th Welt der Musik (World of Music) competition, the Conservatory reported on Wednesday.

Guyumjyan performed Fritz Kreisler–Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Liebesleid (Love’s Sorrow) and Francis Poulenc’s Novelette No. 3.

Guyumjyan is a recipient of the Hovhannes Chekijian scholarship for the 2025-2026 academic year.
