Armenian court orders FlyOne Armenia to pay compensation over flight delay

An Armenian court has ordered FlyOne Armenia to compensate a passenger after a flight delay caused him to miss a connecting flight, leading to financial losses.

According to court records on DataLex legal database see by Panorama.am, passenger Vahe Panosyan missed his Sochi-Novosibirsk flight after FlyOne Armenia’s Yerevan-Sochi service was delayed. He was forced to purchase a new ticket at a cost of 28,138 Russian rubles.

The court ruled that the airline’s actions were unlawful and that there was a direct causal link between the delay and the passenger’s losses. FlyOne Armenia was ordered to reimburse the cost of the new ticket, amounting to 209,910 Armenian drams, as well as part of the state duty and legal expenses.

The case passed through all three judicial instances. The Court of Cassation upheld the ruling, making it final and legally binding.

FlyOne Armenia is jointly owned by the family of ruling Civil Contract party MP and businessman Khachatur Sukiasyan and Moldova-based FlyOne air carrier. Fifty per cent of the company is owned by Sukiasyan’s brother, Eduard Sukiasyan.
