Mediterranean cyclone to bring snow, warmer temperatures to Armenia

A cyclone moving in from the Mediterranean Sea is approaching Armenia and is expected to affect the country until 4 February.

According to Gagik Surenyan, Deputy Director of Armenia’s Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center, snow is forecast for some parts of the country from Saturday evening. Mountainous regions are expected to experience strong winds, blizzards and reduced visibility.

Surenyan said the cyclone is moving in from the south-west and is carrying warmer air masses. As a result, daytime temperatures across the country, including the Ararat Valley and the capital, Yerevan, are set to rise by 7-8C.

“Despite the precipitation, overall temperatures will increase throughout the country, leading to the dissipation of cold air stagnation,” he added.
