Armenia to unveil new draft constitution in March

Armenia’s justice minister says a draft of the country’s new constitution will be ready in March, with a public awarness campaign to follow.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Justice Minister Srbuhi Galyan outlined the progress made by the Constitutional Council, which has already debated and approved a number of key proposals.

“We have a responsibility to communicate these issues to the public so that people understand what is being discussed,” she said.

Galyan stressed that the constitution can only be adopted through a referendum, adding that the final decision rests with the Armenian people. “The people have the final say and will express their will through free elections on the new text of the country’s fundamental law,” she added.
