Armenia sees rise in infant mortality in 2025

Infant mortality increased in Armenia in 2025, with 207 deaths among children under one year old compared with 188 in 2024, according to figures shared by Anush Poghosyan, head of the Right to Health NGO.

In a social media post on Thursday, Poghosyan described each child death as a signal of failure within the health system, particularly when linked to preventable causes such as late diagnosis, inaccessible or delayed medical care and shortcomings in neonatal and paediatric services.

She criticised official claims of health sector “reforms”, arguing that the data reveal a mismatch between promises and outcomes. “If the system were truly effective, reductions in infant mortality would be steady and continuous, not fluctuating year by year,” Poghosyan wrote.
