Armenian opposition figure warns of post-election electricity price hike

Armenia’s electricity tariffs are likely to rise after the June 2026 parliamentary elections, a senior opposition figure warned on Tuesday.

Davit Ghazinyan, former acting CEO of the Electric Networks of Armenia and a board member of the Strong Armenia party, said the government had deliberately delayed price increases until after the vote.

“We have strong suspicions that everything has been done to ensure electricity tariffs remain unchanged before the elections,” Ghazinyan told a press conference. “Afterwards, prices will go up.”

He drew parallels with the period before the 2021 elections, when he said the government softened its stance toward businesses and citizens, only to tighten policies once voting ended. “I believe the same, but in an even harsher form, awaits us after the upcoming elections,” Ghazinyan added.
